Archival Research
The archives are my second home. Whether your family already has boxes of documents or is starting from scratch, I will scour the historical record to uncover the stories of your ancestors. These searches often take me far beyond the traditional archives and the “thrill of the hunt” in finding obscure sources fills me with joy.
Personal Interviews
I began my career as a social worker and am trained in conducting sensitive and respectful interviews. Some family members may be hesitant to share their stories and I provide a supportive and affirming approach to put their minds at ease. Discretion and confidentiality will be exercised in regards to any sensitive information.
Historical Context
As a professional historian, I can shed light on the world as your ancestors saw it. Motivations gain clarity and mysteries are resolved when the bigger picture is accounted for. Additionally, even when personal data is scarce, historical context often allows for seemingly lost stories to emerge.
